Gerry E "Gus" Zeager

Gerry E. ‘Gus” Zeager passed away peacefully at his residence in Ambler, PA on Friday, April 9, 2010. He was 74.

Born April 15, 1935 in York, PA, he was the son of the late Reuben B. Zeager Sr. and Edna (Warner) Zeager.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Zeager of York, PA in 2003 and his son, Bradley Zeager of Naestved, Denmark in 2001.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Priscilla Burns Zeager, and his loving family including brother Reuben B. Zeager Jr. (Carol) of York, PA; two daughters Kelly Gambone (Nicholas Sr) of Worcester, PA and Megan Kain (Chip) of Knoxville, TN; two step-daughters, Karleigh Burns of Arlington, VA and Marisa Burns, Columbus, GA; two grandchildren Mark Zeager of Naestved, Denmark and Nicholas Gambone Jr. of Worcester, PA; several nieces and nephews.

Gus graduated from William Penn Sr. High in 1953 as a three year varsity letter man for football, basketball and baseball. He also earned his BS from Millersville University and his MED from Trenton State.

He served in the US Army, Ft. Knox Armor School and the PA National Guard for 5 ½ years.

Gus taught Industrial Arts and was the Technology Supervisor in the Wissahickon School District for 35 years and was a highly recognized coach and PIAA official throughout Montgomery County for football, basketball and baseball. After retiring from WSD, Gus worked at Temple University as the Coordinator of Vocational Education In-service Programs and was also a teacher trainer for Lego Co. coordinating and teaching Application of Science Concepts in the Classroom.

He was a dedicated volunteer, giving over 20+ years of his time to convalescent homes and the Dolphins, along with Meals On Wheels and Habitat for Humanity.

Relatives and friends are invited to Gus’s memorial service on Friday, April 23 at 11 AM at Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 919 Tennis Avenue, Maple Glen, PA (between Welsh Road & Limekiln Pike). Friends may call from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church. Officiating will be Rev. David Robinson, Rector.

Interment will be at Whitemarsh Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gus’s memory to Wissahickon Hospice, Development Office, 150 Monument Road, Suite 300, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.
