Virginia Macbride

Virginia C. MacBride, beloved wife and mother, passed away on February 25, 2012, at her home, at Fort Washington Estates, Ft. Washington, PA. By her side was her husband of 70 years, William L. MacBride, Sr, her son and daughter, William L. MacBride, Jr. of Helena, Montana and Susan M. Lupo of Blue Bell, PA and their respective spouses Nancy MacBride and Robert Lupo, as well as her grandchildren.

Virginia was born on May 4, 1924, in Hamburg, New York, to Ethel M. Stark (Chambers) and George W. Chambers. She had four sisters. Her family moved shortly thereafter to Norristown, PA. Virginia graduated from A.D. Eisenhower High School in 1942. She caught the eye of the guy behind the soda fountain counter in Trooper around that time, and married Bill MacBride on June 26, 1942, at Hawes Avenue Methodist Church in Norristown. They first lived in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. Bill, then, enlisted in the Navy and served as a SEABEE in the South Pacific.

Virginia traveled by herself to Oxnard, CA to see Bill off to war, and lived with her parents during that time in Norristown. She was employed as a riveter in Phoenixville, PA during the war and later at Dewees Department Store in Philadelphia.

At the end of the war, Virginia and Bill lived in an apartment in Fort Washington from 1945-1949. In 1949, they moved out to Prospectville, PA where Virginia stayed at home to raise two children, born shortly thereafter. When the children were old enough, Virginia began working for Dr. Lester Mann in special education, which evolved into employment with the original Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, from which she retired in 1986, after 18 years. In Prospectville, Virginia was active for many years with the Simmons School PTA, the Girl and Boy Scout Programs and the Needlework Guild. She and Bill were members of Prospectville United Methodist Church for almost 30 years, and Chelten Baptist Church for the past 32 years.

Virginia is pre-deceased by her sisters: Charlotte (Bill) Warden, formerly of Trooper, PA; and Marion (Brud) Cain, formerly of Audubon, PA and survived by sisters; Margaret (Fred) Thompson, of Leonardstown, MD, and Ruth (Albert) Rogers, of New Holland, PA; by her two children: William L. (Nancy) MacBride, Jr. and Susan M. (Robert) Lupo; four grandchildren: Robert W. (Kelly ) Krewson Jr., of Pottsgrove, PA; Abby R. (Ernie) Turner, of Belgrade, Montana; William L. MacBride, III, of Ft. Collins, CO; and Evan C. MacBride, of Helena, Montana; and great-granddaughter: Nellie Claire Turner; and three great grandchildren by marriage: Brittany Robinson, Chelsea Reed and James Reed and a great great-granddaughter Aubree Mae Murphy.

A memorial service will be held at Shaeff-Myers Funeral Home, 145 Tennis Ave, Ambler PA on Wednesday February 29, 2012 at 11am. Friends may call after 10am.
