Eleanore W. Stein

Our loving mother and grandmother, Eleanore W. Stein died peacefully on August 17, 2010 in the presence of family. Eleanore was born on November 2, 1922, the eldest of five children and only daughter of Oscar and Marion Schaible. Eleanore spoke throughout her life of her many fond childhood memories, especially her visits to her grandparent’s farm in Tinicum Township.

In 1941 Eleanore graduated from Germantown High School and shortly thereafter began her career working for Philadelphia National Bank.

While participating in her church choir, Eleanore met her lifelong partner, Otto Stein, and the two were married on September 22, 1956. Together, they created a loving home in Mt. Airy and welcomed two sons, Otto Jr. and Eric (Rick) in 1958 and 1961, respectfully. Eleanore dedicated herself to caring for her family and volunteering for many community, church and school activities. Eleanore was also an avid reader and shared her many artistic knitting and needlepoint creations with friends and family. Following Otto’s retirement in 1976, the family moved their home to Worcester. In retirement Otto and Eleanore traveled extensively and Eleanore counted among her most precious memories their trip to Alaska with their sons; to Australia and New Zealand and trips to Montana to welcome her new grandchildren.

Eleanore is survived by sons Otto Jr. (Mary) and Rick (Barbara); grandchildren Don Wilhelm of Tampa FL, Erich and Kyle Stein of Maple Glenn, and Emma and Luke Stein of Bozeman MT; brother Wayne (Lee) of Addison NY and three generations of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Otto, parents and brothers Robert, Thomas, and Dale Schaible.

A memorial service will held at 10:00 AM, on Friday August 20 at Upper Dublin Lutheran Church, 411 Susquehanna Road Ambler, PA 19002. Family and friends may call at the church beginning at 9:30 AM. The family is grateful for the care and support Eleanore received from the staff at Spring House Estates. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Upper Dublin Lutheran Church or ACTS Hospice, 812 N. Bethlehem Pike, Ambler, PA 19002.
