Yone W. Okamoto

Yoneko “Yone” Watanabe Okamoto, 94, of Lower Gwynedd, formerly of Ambler, Pennsylvania, went to her heavenly home on November 28, 2011, at Spring House Estates.

She was the beloved wife of the late Allen H. Okamoto for 62 years. Yone was born in Tokyo on July 20, 1917, to her late parents, Isaburo and Hama Watanabe. Yone completed schooling at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles and graduated from Los Angeles Junior College with an Associates of Arts degree in Business and Civic Health. She was a survivor of the internment camp, in Heart Mountain, Wyoming, during WWII. She served as a nurse and secretary while in camp.

She was employed as a medical records librarian at Women’s Homeopathic Hospital in Philadelphia and later worked as a library assistant at Jarrett own Elementary School in Dresher, PA. Yone was a faithful member of Supplee Presbyterian Church in Ambler and a member of the Japanese American Citizens League. With the gift of hospitality and creativity, she graciously served many in her church and community. She is lovingly remembered by her four children: Barbara Okamoto of Cleveland, Ohio; Jeffrey (wife Christina) Okamoto of Lebanon, PA; Wayne (wife Ollie) Okamoto of Chicago and Joan Okamoto of Chicago; as well as her four grandchildren.

She is survived by one older brother, Jiro Watanabe, and preceded in death by two brothers, Mas Watanabe and Frank Watanabe. Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of her life on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at 11 am at Supplee Presbyterian Church, 855 E. Welsh Road, Ambler, PA, 19002. Those who cannot attend the reception afterwards may greet the family from 10-11 am at the church.

Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Supplee Presbyterian Church.
